“You never fail until you stop trying.”-Persevere

Do You Only Talk to God When You Hear Him?

persevere

: to persist in a state, enterprise, or undertaking in spite of counterinfluences, opposition, or discouragement

It’s so easy to be excited about being a Christian when you can hear His voice leading and instructing. But what about when you can’t hear anything? What do you do then? Do you persevere in your faith?

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

Galatians 6:9

I went through a season like that when the Lord was talking to me more than He ever has in my Christian walk. Wait though,… Is my perspective all wrong? Perhaps I should say, there was a season in my Christian life when I heard the voice of the Lord the most. That was the most exciting time in my Christian life. I would pray, and He would answer in real time.

That’s the only real joy I know. Or it’s the deepest level. Nothing on earth can compare!

But if my Christian walk hinged on hearing Him, I would have given up a long time ago. The test is not based on if you hear Him. It is based on what you do when you don’t hear.

The Real Test

The test for a mountain climber is not what he did when he stood on the mountaintop, where the air is thin, and the heart beats fast. The test is when he’s at the bottom of the mountain, so far below his goal. When he’s tired, and there is no end in sight, just more rocks to climb, aching muscles, discouragement whispering in his ears. Does he endure and go on in that season? Say it’s not worth it? Or do whatever it takes to reach that goal? Does he persevere?

“You never fail until you stop trying.”

Albert Einstein

When the days are long, and you plod wearily, one foot in front of the other, no inspiration, no sign that He’s there—now, that is the true test! “Thou God seest me.”-Genesis 16:13 “His eyelids try the children of men.” Psalm 11:4

“His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”-Matthew 25:21 When you don’t see or feel or hear Him, do you leave, do you forget about Him? Does He mean so little to you?

If your husband is away from you, do you forget your fidelity to him and run off with another man because he’s gone for hours or days and you can’t see or hear him? If you can understand that principle about your husband, why wouldn’t you understand it about God? “And it shall be at that day, saith the LORD, that thou shalt call me Ishi (my husband); and shalt call me no more Baali (my master).”-Hosea 2:16

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”-2 Corinthians 5:7

How true that is! We have faith that someday He will return and reward us for our fruit, whether it be good or evil. (Revelations 22:12)

If you are in a dry season, be faithful to God. He is watching you. It will be worth it. Never stop praying, seeking, and obeying God. Keep growing in your faith even if you can’t see any growth right nowfirst the roots, then the leaves.

“The tree that survives the drought grows the deepest roots.”

What was a hard season that you came through stronger in your walk with Christ? Please, tell me about it. How did you persevere?
