I Was Surviving Daily Life without Any Real Goals or Purpose
Are you living the life you love or merely surviving your circumstances? I know what it’s like to survive. You just get through the day and try not to annoy the people around you, trying to get your job done so you don’t get in trouble. And you don’t ask for things because you don’t want to feel like you’re beholden to others. You do things that you feel you must do even though it might not feel quite right. It’s living a lie. And you don’t live true to your conscience just because everybody else around you is sacrificing theirs–and they would make you feel wrong if you dared to live up to your own.
Truly, you can’t even say what you think because you know you will be misunderstood and judged. That’s surviving.
But now I know what it’s like to live.
I can say what I think without fear of judgment. I’m not afraid to ask questions–at least, that is, I’m working on it.
Now I don’t have to live up to what others think, but I can live up to what God thinks. I can obey my conscience and live for truth. So I no longer feel the need to defend a lie to protect someone else.
To live is to have joy.
There may be problems in my life. There may be messes in my house, but I can still have joy and peace because I know somebody’s not looking over my shoulder, ready to criticize me. Yes, everyone has problems. No one has a perfect life. But the pressure is gone – the insane, unrealistic expectation that I tried to live up to.
Now, I do the best I can in the situation I’m in, and I live for God.
Live according to your conscience. If you make a mistake, don’t worry–everybody does. You’re going to make lots of mistakes. And when you let go of what others think, you will find so much joy and peace.
We are all unique. God created us differently. Everybody has different abilities, strengths, and weaknesses. Stop comparing. God deals with us uniquely, and He knows us intimately. He sees all and knows all. Practice doing everything as unto Him. Change your perspective. You will never please everybody. Strive to please God. Be faithful to Him. And when you do things in secret as unto Him, He will reward you openly.
Stop surviving, and start living the life God intended for you!
